A brand new tennis tournament exclusively for Garden City's Seniors that was jointly sponsored by the United States Tennis Association and the Garden City Recreation Department had its inaugural play this April. Timed to close the indoor season and begin the outdoor season this round robin format tournament is well on its way to becoming a annual event. In this unique tournament participants are encouraged to sign up as a single and they rotate partners and play doubles with and against every other participant. Even though a number of GC's top senior players were sidelined due to illness and injury and for others the Florida weather was too beautiful to leave, the participants that did compete had a full morning of enjoyable competition and camaraderie. Nicknamed the Severoli Pasta Bowl, the tournament winners were awarded 4 pound bags of Severoli frozen pasta courtesy of the company's president Joe Severoli. The USTA and the GCRec thanks all participants and hopes to see more seniors enjoying this unique tournament next year
