Waldorf Eighth Grader Wins Gold Medal at Long Island Math Fair
      On April 27, over 600 students from the Long Island area made presentations at the final round of the Al Kalfus Long Island Math Fair held at Hofstra University. Olivia Paone, an eighth grader at the Waldorf School of Garden City, won a gold medal for her presentation on the history, properties and mathematics of the Fibonacci sequence.

Mercy Bridge Marathon Held
      The annual brunch for the Bridge Marathon, a fundraiser on behalf of the Garden City League of Mercy Medical Center, was recently held at the home of Joan Hildreth, who is a co-chairperson with Marygene Anderson. The ladies who participated in the marathon played bridge by competing with each other during the past year.

Hannon Announces Healthy Schools Legislation
      Health Committee Chairman Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City) announced the New York State Senate passed legislation (S.5892) on Monday, May 21st to establish nutrition guidelines for school districts to follow in order to provide students with healthy food choices.

Students Perform Music Recital At Resurrection
      The Music Institute of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection held its 2nd Annual Spring Recital recently. Piano students under the direction of Mrs. Elisabeth Erb and an organ student under the direction of Mr. Edward Dettling, Jr. prepared several pieces to perform for family and friends.       On August 4 and 5, Thomas Burger of Garden City will ride in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC), the nation's original bike-a-thon for charity that today raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country.

Seniors Enjoy New Tournament At The Bubble
      A brand new tennis tournament exclusively for Garden City's Seniors that was jointly sponsored by the United States Tennis Association and the Garden City Recreation Department had its inaugural play this April. Cathedral Youth Receive Sacrament of Confirmation
      At the Easter Vigil Mass, on Holy Saturday evening, the Journey to Adulthood (J2A) group of The Cathedral of the Incarnation received the sacrament of Confirmation. This group of young people has grown especially close as they prepared to receive this rite. They participated in a retreat on the eastern end of Long Island. The J2A did mission work in Navajo Land.

      Scouts from Troop and Pack 55 celebrated Memorial Day with a full weekend of activities. The Boy Scouts rose early and were at Pinelawn Cemetery at 6 AM to place American Flags at Veteran's graves. Troop 55 attended the Memorial Service at Cathedral of the Incarnation, their sponsor, early Monday morning.
