Bitty Furman, Lauren Coleman, Lilly Schmitt and Courtney Studdert descend upon the opponent! Following a disappointing 0-1 loss to Smithtown the previous week, the Daredevils got their game back and had a fantastic weekend of soccer. In their league game, in which the "Devils" versed the "Angels" of West Islip, they added a 4-1 win to their record. The Daredevils controlled the entire game. With a well placed ball by Krista Dampman, Carly Knowles broke away from the pack with multiples shots on goal, to create a 1-0 lead. Stopper Brynn Murphy was on fire! Setting up goal two, she shot the ball from midfield which was "too hot to handle" by the goalie, who deflected it to the ground. Jane Frumberg was quick to act with an instantaneous rebound shot. Hitting the post and teetering on the goal line, teammate Lily Schmitt ensured the ball crossed the line. Unstoppable Murphy decided to do it again; this time, the ball sailed directly into the net from midfield. Jane Frumberg, who was persistent on offense throughout the game, landed goal four during a scramble in front of the net.

Kelsey Tierney is ready in goal, as Niki Berkery And Taylor Pappas disrupt the play. On Sunday, with many of the players making a "mad dash" from their lacrosse games, the Daredevils came together at 6:00pm in Northport to play in the third round of the State Cup. In the first few minutes, each team had some dangerous shots on goal with no success. Kelsey Tierney immediately let Northport know "this isn't going to be a walk in the park!" The crowd held their breath as a rocket was launched high towards our net - the Northport team was ready to cheer - but Kelsey miraculously pushed it up and over the net and prevented the goal. Northport ultimately landed an unstoppable goal, which was responded to by a goal by Nicole Bommarito, served up by Carly Knowles. At half-time, the score was 1-1. The second-half of the game was all about defense for the Daredevils. Lauren Coleman, Niki Berkery, Bitty Furman and Taylor Pappas played outstanding and shut down rapid fire plays and well-placed corner kicks. As the moon was trading places with the sun, the girls headed into overtime.

Relentless Carly Knowles fights for a goal.
Relentless Carly Knowles fights for a goal. Midfielders Erin Greiner, Jackie Jahelka, Lily Schmitt, Victoria Piscopo, Courtney Studdert, and Liesl Jaye came out strong in the first half of OT, determined to switch the play to our offense. Twenty-minutes later, the goalies and players prepared for penalty kicks. With admiration and respect of all her teammates, Kelsey Tierney once again demonstrated her leadership and talents in goal. After the first round of penalty kicks in which Carly Knowles, Erin Greiner, Brynn Murphy and Courtney Studdert landed their shots, and Kelsey had a huge save, the teams were tied. With the pressure of sudden death penalty kicks to determine the game, Krista Dampman, Nicole Bommarito and Lauren Coleman added three more goals, while Kelsey remained cool and focused, deterring four goals overall. After ten rounds of penalty kicks, the Daredevils prevailed.

The following week, the Daredevils played their final State Cup and Waldbaums Cup games, as they succumbed to Syosset and Oceanside teams. Winning their league game against the same Oceanside team --- they are in relentless pursuit of first place for Division 3. Stay tuned. Go Daredevils!
