Grey 6th Grade LAX Suffer First Loss
Matt Cortese and defensive line try to keep 3 Village in check.
This past Sunday the 6th grade Grey(Guterding/Mcdaid/Muller/Dooley) LAX team traveled to Suffolk County power house Three Village for battle between unbeaten teams.
With advance information that the opponent would be formidable GC entered the game with high hopes but knowing it would probably be their toughest game of the season.
From the start it was a very physical game with Three Village taking it through the GC players rather than around them with conventional roll dodges. GC held tough, giving it back as best they could and playing them close the first quarter which ended in a 5 to 5 tie.
But GC was devastated when stalwart middie John Walcyzk went down on a crushing Three Village cross check early in the game. Although a penalty was called on the player who had been throwing his weight around in the minutes leading up to the hit, it would be too late for John, his season ended in that moment with a senseless, brutal hit with a broken collar bone.
Spencer Bais and teammates work the ball.
GC was able to stay close answering each Three Village goal through the middle of the fourth. Unfortunately time ran out after GC got behind in the waning moments of play despite the valiant effort of the whole team to try to get the "W for John.
Best wishes go out to John Walcyzk for a speedy recovery from the whole grey team: Justin Guterding,Jj Mcdaid, Timmy Muller, Matty Schmelzinger, Jack Metzler, Spencer Bais, Lucas Clay, Matt Cortese, Kyle Skramko, Joe Stone, Matt Haeffner, Eric Sundius, Petey Keranzas, Drew Magdich, Matt Vitale, Brendan Fitzsimmons, Mark Lamarr, Ryan Dooley, and Dan Weiss: Coaches Joe Guterding, John Mcdaid, Rich Muller, and Mike Dooley: all the parents and friends. Get well soon. Grey will miss you!
JJ Mcdaid and Middies take it to the cage.
Jack Metzler and Matty Schmelzinger keep it in the offensive end.
