Michelle Rotondo smoothly over the water jump
The girls Varsity Track team took a ride out to the Cold Spring Harbor Sea Hawk Invitational Meet last Saturday and came away with some significant performances led by the National Qualifying time by Maddie Adams in her 2000m steeplechase victory. Other strong performances were first place finishes in the 4x800 relay team of Michelle Rotondo, Katie Reilly, Liz Slattery and Maddie Adams, 4x100 team of Emily Hepworth, Taryn Schmelzinger, Briana Lynch and Eleni Andromides, the sprint medley relay of Briana Lynch, Amanda Olivio, Taryn Schmelzinger and Katie Reilly, the 1600m race walk by Molly Josephs and the 400m hurdles with Laura Martens.
On Monday the girls finished their conference schedule at Great Neck South against the home team, South Side and Herricks. And in convincing style the girls swept through this meet to clinch the Conference Championship by defeating the nearest competition, South Side, by 65 points. The girls do have to share the top spot with South Side and Hewlett, with all three teams finishing with identical 12-1 records. Some noteworthy performances at the season ending conference meet was a sweep of the 400 hurdles by Lauren Williams, Laura Martens and Michelle Rotondo, the top two spots in the 800m by Maddie Adams and Michelle Rotondo and the 1500m by Maddie and Liz Slattery (who also took first in the 3000m), Emily Hepworth taking the 100m and 200m sprints, as well as being a part of the winning 4x100 relay with Briana Lynch, Amanda Olivio and Patricia McCormick, a victory in the 4x400 by Katie Reilly, Brooke Senken, Jenna D'Angelo and Taryn Schmelzinger, and the victory in the 4x800 by Katy Daly, Barbara Sullivan, Michelle Rotondo and Maddie Adams and some strong throws in the shot put and discus by Amanda Joyce and Amanda Olivio. Coaches Cuzzo and Fregosi take the girls into the division championship meet on May 15th and as a warm up they will travel to North Shore on Saturday.
