On May 5 th and 6 th , the Garden City U10 girls, the Xtreme, had an exciting weekend on the soccer field with one big win and one loss. The Xtreme playing at home on Saturday at Nassau Haven, had a strong victory against Wantagh/Seaford Revolution and a loss on Sunday against Massapequa in the Waldbaums Cup Tournament. More ... Following a disappointing 0-1 loss to Smithtown the previous week, the Daredevils got their game back and had a fantastic weekend of soccer. In their league game, in which the "Devils" versed the "Angels" of West Islip, they added a 4-1 win to their record. The Daredevils controlled the entire game. More ... The GC Sharks rolled over Westfield New Jersey in a game played at Rutgers immediately prior to the Rutgers vs. UMASS game on Saturday. Then on Sunday, GC dismantled the Manhasset Tribe, an elite North Shore travel team. More ... The Garden City Sparks (GU11) dominated RVC last Saturday but were unable to score a goal. In the first half, Haley O'Hanlon hit the crossbar from about 20 yards and Anne Blanco hit the post. At halftime, the score was 0-0 despite the Sparks maintaining more than 60% possession. The Garden City Power U-10 girl's soccer team played an exciting match againstWantaghthis Saturday. The Power put forth a solid defensive effort throughout the game, demonstrating good ball control and some well executed passing. The Power defense worked together to drive the ball out of their end. The Power goalies dazzled the crowd with some awesome saves. More ... To the victor go the spoils or so they say.Through the first half of this season, the Demons have yet to enjoy victory as they continue to work through the growing pains of life versus Division I competition. Garden City's varsity softball team played two home games on May 2nd and May 7th. In a Conference III game on May 7th, Garden City pitcher Jenna Amoroso got the win as the Trojans beat Jericho 6-3. In the top of the first inning, GC's Erica Testani hit a two run double to make the score 2-0. Freshman Samantha Trapasso was 2-for-4 at the plate including a double and an RBI. More ... The GC 4th grade Maroon started with the coaches emphasizing that groundballs would be the key to defeating their well disciplined Three Village counterparts. The boys responded by winning them everywhere on the field, starting with the first face-off. More ... On Saturday May 5th Garden City's boys JV lacrosse team took on South Side. Passion to win and unselfish team play led GC to victory over this Suffolk County powerhouse. Annie Blanco opened the scoring on a nice assist from Casey Cullen. Shannon Callahan then scored off a pass from Annie and within the first 3 minutes GC led 2-0. More ... This year the Garden City Rams Girls Lacrosse Program will again offer clinic program for 2nd grade girls who live or go to school within the Village of Garden City. The program will start on Saturday, May 19th from 4:30 PM to 6 pm and will run for five sessions concluding with an end of the season "play day" as part of the Jay Gallagher Tournament on Sunday June 17th. Delaney and Julia Hall, 10 year old Garden City twins, came in first and second respectively in the Mini-Mighty-Man biathlon held at Eisenhower Park on April 22.
