5th Grade Rams Take On Huntington Village
Timmy Halaby driving up field
The Dutton, Hughes, McCullough 5th grade Rams lacrosse team traveled to Huntington Village for what was expected to be a highly competitive game. Off the starting face-off, GC's Carney Mahon (2G) immediately took control of the ball and ran down field for the first goal of the game stunning the Huntington defense. GC's second goal of the game came off a feed from James Dutton's (2A) stick, finding Carney Mahon, firing a hard bounce shot to close out the 1st half, with a GC 2-0 lead. The second half was led by the defensive unit. Goalie, Brian Hughes, lead the defense in successfully clearing the ball and creating offensive situations for the team. The aggressive play of Tim Halaby, the speed of Michael Collins, stick-skills of Patrick Finneran and man-coverage of Jack Aneser left the Huntington offense little opportunity to score. In the third period, 1st time player, David Gage netted his first goal, off the stick of Dutton drawing a defensive slide. Danny Miller and Jack Kennelly also exhibited strong offensive play for GC. With six minutes remaining in the game, Huntington scored their first goal. GC's defense continued their relentless play from midfielders Connor Riedell, Joe Burdi, Will Harrington and Anthony Zinga. Connor McCullough consistently hustled and exhibited total ball control throughout the game for a 3-1 GC victory. GC will host Manhasset this Sunday at home.
