Slide/Lecture
A free slide/lecture on "The Glorious Disney Gardens" will be presented by Profesor Kathryn Stanley Podwell at 2 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. This public program is funded by The Friends of the Garden City Public Library.
Seating and parking are limited and on a first-come first-served basis. No tickets are required. The library is located at 60 Seventh Street in Garden City. For directions, call (516) 742-8405.
Gardeners, vactiioners and landscape lovers will enjoy learning about favorite Disney hortifultural delights, such as: flower blooms, roses, themed gardens and topiary whimsy. A team of more than 650 professionals at Walt Disney World Resort direct a landscape "show" of well over 4 million trees, shrubs and flowers that are part of the entertainment at the Vacation Kingdom. Each plant is placed stragegically to add character, color, mood or backdrop to one of the world's largest and busiest "stages."
Kathryn Stanley Podwall, a professor of biology at Nassau Community College, is a member of numerous organizations, including: The New York Academy of Science, American Women in Community Colleges, and Soroptimist International. She serves as a reviewer of children's science books for Science Books & Films, the Journal of Science Literacy published by the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences to assist librarians and other professionals.
