Air Force Maj. Brian E. Bell has been named the 336th Training Group Aircraft Commander of the Year for 2006.
Selection was based on the individual's exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, significant self-improvement, specific achievements, notable accomplishments, and community service and support.
In addition, Maj. Bell earned recognition as a recipient of the Air Education and Training Command's Mackay Trophy for being part of the most meritorious flight of the year by an Air Force person, persons or organization. The trophy symbolizes gallantry and devotion to duty during combat or noncombat missions.
The exclusive annual award, presented by the National Aeronautical Association, was created in 1912 by Clarence H. Mackay, a prominent American industrialist, philanthropist, and aviation enthusiast.
Bell is assigned to the 36th Rescue Flight, Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, Wash. He has served in the military for more than 16 years.
He is the son of Ron O. and Kay L. Bell of South Willow Road, Claremore, Okla.
His wife, Kimberly, is the daughter of Craig and Pat Webster of Meadbrook Road, Garden City, and Barbara Kusky of Rocky Point, N.Y.
The major is a 1986 graduate of Claremore High School, and received a bachelor's degree in 1990 from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater. He earned a master's degree in 2001 from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Extended Campus, Great Falls, Mont.
