Church's Plant Sale Benefits Troops
Bob Hope entertained them during World War II. Presidents commend them in speech after speech. Family members exchange emails and phone calls with them. But if you are not Bob Hope, the President, or a family member how can you support members of the U.S. Armed Forces? Here's a suggestion: buy a plant.
On Saturday, May 5, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection will hold its 2nd Annual Mother's Day Plant Sale, proceeds from which will be donated to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Last year's sale brought in more than $3000 (also benefiting service men and women). Based on preorder figures, event coordinators expect profits to surpass that figure. The group also hopes to receive matching funds from a not-for-profit benefit society, potentially doubling the donation.
The event, sponsored by the church's Women's Ministries, runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Unless inclement weather forces the sale indoors, it will be held outside on the corner of Stewart Avenue and Emmet Place. The wide variety of items for purchase includes both annuals, which last for one season, and perennials, which bloom year after year.
Resurrection-Garden City is a Christian community of faith, located at 420 Stewart Avenue. All are welcome to worship on Saturdays at 5:30 PM and Sundays at 8:30 and 11 AM, with Sunday School and Adult Education at 9:45 AM. Parking is available on Devereux and Emmet Place.
