"Wound Care: Find the Path to Healing"
Winthrop-University Hospital's Health Update for Seniors and Their Families will sponsor a free program, "Wound Care: Find the Path to Healing," on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at 1:15 PM. The program will be held at the Mineola Community Center, 155 Washington Avenue in Mineola.
Millions of Americans suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds resulting from diabetes, circulatory problems and complications following surgery. Other factors, such as poor nutrition, can contribute to the problem and interfere with the wound-healing process.
But, there is help. Rochelle Battino, Administrative Director of the new Wound Healing Center and Hyperbaric Medicine Program at Winthrop, will explain how a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment by the Wound Healing Team can help put you on the road to recovery. Arlene Stein, MS, RD, CDN, from Winthrop's Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, will discuss how important nutrients can help promote wound healing and improved health. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
The program includes free blood pressure checks beginning at 1:15 PM, followed by the lecture at 1:45. Seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve your seat, please call (516) 663-3916.
Health Update for Seniors and Their Families is a free community health education program coordinated by Geriatric Health Services and the Winthrop Home Health Agency. For information about other programs at the Hospital, please call 1-866-WINTHROP.
