Spring was a little late in arriving in Garden City this year but that did not deter the Ichi-Fuji-kai Dance Association, Ltd. from"Celebrating Spring with Japanese Classical Dance" in the elegant Soke Fujima style.

This entertaining event took place on Thursday, April 19th at 2 p.m. in the Garden City Library.

Emcee Helen Moss gave a preliminary introduction as to the meaning of certain gestures the audience was about to witness. Then a troupe of seven dancers, clad in beautiful costumes, presented different dance numbers. When a performer was not dancing, she acted as akoken (stagehand) to assist the dancer with an on-stage costume change.

A lively question and answer period followed the performance.

Funding for this program was provided by The Friends of the Library.

Mr. Yoshi Amao performed "Ame
no Goro," a dance in aragoto style.
