Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem

On April 25 , 1:41 PM, PO Sommer arrested a 24-year-old Hempstead man for alleged speeding on Franklin Avenue near St. Joseph's School. He had a suspended license (6 suspensions, 3 dates) and was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd degree, unlicensed operation, and speeding in a school zone... On April 26 , 4:05 AM, PO Florio arrested a 24-year-old Bayville man for allegedly speeding at 55 mph in a 30-mph zone at Franklin Avenue/Fifth Street, no insurance, defective brake lights, not staying on a lane, unsafe lane change, and alleged DWI (.18%)... On April 27 , 4:45 AM, PO Florio arrested a 24-year-old Northport woman for allegedly passing 2 red lights, and striking a curb, while allegedly DWI( .) at Stewart Avenue... On April 28 , a 43-year-old Massapequa man was arrested for DWI felony after he hit a curb at Washington Avenue. He also was charged with unsafe lane change, driving on a sidewalk, and aggravated unlicensed operation felony... On April 26 , a 45-year-old Port Washington man was arrested for allegedly lifting 11 Adidas men's colognes valued at $175 at Sears, Franklin Avenue... $20 and credit cards were taken from a pocketbook, which was stolen at Adelphi University on April 26... On May 1 , police in conjunction with the DOT, held a truck stop at Clinton Rd., where 14 trucks were inspected and 14 trucks were taken out of service, with 55 weight violations, and 119 tickets issued...

Fire Responses:

FD cleaned after an MVA occurred at Old Country Rd. on April 25... An occupant of a Prescott St. residence accidentally turned on the gas on a range, leaving an odor there. Firemen ventilated the area and the gas was shut off... Steam from a shower set off an alarm at a Meadow St. house on April 26... Power was shut off to an electrical light fixture at a house on April 27... Firewood that was burning outside a Greenridge Avenue house on April 28, caused alarm on April 28... A cardboard box that had been burning was the source of an alarm on April 29 at GC Plaza... FD cordoned off an area at Fairmount Blvd. when a tree limb came down on wires there on April 30... On May 2 , there was a gas leak at Seventh Street and Keyspan was notified...That's all this week. G. T.
