An overview of the current Broadway season was the topic of the day at the April 25th meeting of The Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead held at the Garden City Casino.

Panel moderator Bea Mercadante opened the program with her annual perceptive overview of the state of the New York theater scene. She then turned the program over to her panel of reviewers.

Marye Heston discussed " Curtains," "Mary Poppins," "Inherit the Wind and "Spring Awakenings."

This was followed by Joan Afflerbach, who reviewed two Off-Broadway offerings, "Howard Kutz" and "Translations."

Three plays were the topic of Geraldine McHugh's reviews: "The Apple Tree," "The Hairy Ape" and "Defender of the Faith."

Three plays were also appraised by Willa Ward but this was the epic trilogy by Tom Stoppard entitled "The Coast of Utopia."
