Community Club News
      An overview of the current Broadway season was the topic of the day at the April 25th meeting of The Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead held at the Garden City Casino. Panel moderator Bea Mercadante opened the program with her annual perceptive overview of the state of the New York theater scene. She then turned the program over to her panel of reviewers.

Diocesan Choir To Sing At St. Joseph Church
      To celebrate its 50th anniversary of service, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rockville Centre will host a concert by the Diocesan Choir at St. Joseph Church, located at Franklin Avenue and 5th Street on Friday, May 11th, at 8 p.m. The Diocesan Choir, whose 120 singers hail from communities throughout Long Island, will perform Charles Gounod's St. Cecilia Mass and other selections.

Shop The Block At Garden City Community Church
      The Auxiliary of the Garden City Community Church will present its Spring Fund Raiser on Saturday, May 12, from 9am to 1pm. "Shop the Block" is a Vendor Mall and will be held on the grounds of the church. Fifteen vendors will be selling all new items including: jewelry, handbags, notecards, home accessories, fashions & accessories, candles and spa items.

Former Panama Canal Commission Chair to Speak
      Robert R. McMillan will be the featured guest speaker at the Garden City Republican Club's next meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, May 9th, 8:00 PM at the Garden City Senior Recreation Center, located on Golf Club Lane at the corner of 11th Street. The evening's topic will be his recently authored book "Global Passage:Transformation of Panama and the Panama Canal.

      On June 2, The Garden City Historical Society will hold its annual A.T. Cathedral Appoints New Christian Education Director
      On Sunday, April 8th, the appointment of Ms. Christina M. Dilluvio as the new Director of Christian Education Formation and Youth Ministry was announced by the Cathedral of the Incarnation's Provost, The Reverend Theodore W. Bean. Ms. Dilluvio has completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and her Master of Arts Degree in Elementary Education at Adelphi University.

      Mother Nature came through for the Garden City Chamber of Commerce's 52 nd Easter sunday Vintage Car Parade on April 8. while it was a bit nippy for April, the sun did shine on hundreds of vintage and classic specimens that rolled down Franklin Avenue and up Seventh Street in all their spectacular glory.

      Spring was a little late in arriving in Garden City this year but that did not deter the Ichi-Fuji-kai Dance Association, Ltd. from "Celebrating Spring with Japanese Classical Dance" in the elegant Soke Fujima style. What is wonderful about Ginny's program is that she mixes in some ballet and yoga to show exercise including stretching, working and learning some dance steps.

      This Sunday, May 6 at 9:15 a.m., Dr. Victor Ayala will speak on Malawi and HIV Aids Pandemic in Africa. He earned his doctorate in sociology for research on how ill homeless people were treated and mistreated at one of the large public hospitals in Brooklyn.

Summer Enrichment Program Registration Underway
     Elementary school students holding Summer Enrichment Program registration booklets that were mailed or sent home with students last week. The Summer Enrichment Program is open to all Garden City School District resident children who will enter any grade this fall, from kindergarten through grade 12. Registration takes place during May, but space is limited. Acceptance is on a first come, first served basis, so register early.
