The Garden City boys' varsity tennis team beat Friends Academy 6-1 on Friday April 13th. Zach Morris, an 8th grader, who has made a tremendous contribution to the varsity team is in his second year playing for Garden City, and has shown great potential as well as a high winning percentage. Zach plays first singles for the team and beat his opponent 6-1, 6-2.
Zach's brother, Alex plays second singles for the varsity team. Alex's steady playing style greatly helped the team in its conference championship last season, and continues to be a critical factor as seen in his 6-2, 6-1 win against Friends.
Junior Mike Ketigian, who is in his third season on the varsity team, filled in at third singles. He put up a good fight against his opponent, but lost in the third set (4-6, 6-3, 0-6). The team is off to a good start this season with a 2-1 record, and are looking for greater things to come. The team's next match is today, Friday, April 27th at Great Neck South at 4:30pm.
