Xtreme And Panthers GoHead To Head
Cara Adams gets possession.
The second league game of the Xtreme U-10 Girls season was held in North Wantagh Park against the Levittown Panthers this past Saturday. The Garden City Xtreme returned to regular league play after a strong win in the Waldbaums Cup Tournament the preceding weekend. After a close and well played match, the Xtreme lost to the Panthers 1-0.
The first half of the game the Xtreme played a strong offense and defense, passing the ball up field and taking several shots at goal. The Panthers defense and goalie relentlessly kept, with the barrage of shots, the Xtreme's offense in check leaving the game scoreless at the end of the first half. Sam Derby was in goal, deflecting and shutting down the Panther offense. Assisting Sam Derby with defense were Jenna Codignotto, Cara Adams, Deanna DiPierro, Alison Holfester, and Katie Roscoe, Isabel McKeown, Sam Miesemer, Lauren Miesemer, and Colette Seel had several attempts at putting points on the board throughout the second half, but they were denied by the talented Panther back line and keeper. Although the Xtreme had a strong defense the Panthers scored 12 minutes into the second half when they gained possession of the ball at the top of the Xtreme 18 yard box. The Panther's striker blazed a low liner into the goal for the only score of the game. Late in the match, Deanna DiPierro's two blistering corner kicks came close to getting by the Panthers goalie but were stopped short, one hitting off the goal post and just missing an almost certain goal. Next week the Xtreme play the New Hyde Park Lady Tigers at home in what should be an exciting game.
