5th Grade Rams - Byrnes-Lucchesi-McLaughlin
Brendan McLaughlin starts up the offensive charge.
It was a beautiful spring morning for all the youth lacrosse teams this past Sunday. The 5th grade Rams team fought a tough defensive battle against a big, strong West Islip team and came away with a solid victory. Goalie Michael Cassano made one spectacular save after another and allowed only 2 goals the entire game. The tight defense squad of Drew Pascale, Patrick Mohan, Matt Lehan, Patrick Gerspach and Conor Byrnes, held back the West Islip offensive charge at every turn. The middies Brian Bingham, Michael Catalano, Michael Randazzo, Thomas Reina (whose brother Jack is on the 30-day disabled list), Anthony Preziosi and Brendan McLaughlin controlled the face offs, the ground balls and most of the action. The attack team of Kieran Brynes, Jack Lucchesi, and Matt Cullen kept the ball down our end for most of the game. The game was tied 2-2 at halftime as the teams were locked in a defensive struggle. But in the second half, the Rams scored 4 unanswered goals and held the mighty West Islip team scoreless. Brendan McLaughlin and Kieran Brynes each had 2 goals and 3 assists. Matt Cullen and Anthony Preziosi added a goal each. The final score was a 6-2 victory evening up the team's record at 1-1. Next game is this Sunday at St. Paul's.
