Flight 800 Victim's Composition To Be Featured
On Sunday May 6, the next Evensong in the Cathedral of the Incarnation's series of Evensong services will be sung at 4:00 p.m.
The Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys and The Cathedral Girls' Choir will perform the featured choral works composed within the last forty years. Included in the service will be the Mount Saint Albans Evening Service by the American composer David Hogan, who perished in the crash of TWA Flight 800 over Long Island. The motet Rise Up, My Love by the Canadian composer Healey Willan and Let All the World by the Scottish composer Kenneth Leighton will also be sung by the combined choirs.
Evensong is a long standing tradition in the Episcopal Church which is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Many travelers to England seek out a service of Evensong in the historic cathedral churches as part of their itinerary. One does not have to fly across the ocean to enjoy this tradition but can come to the majestic Cathedral in the middle of the Village of Garden City and spend a Sunday afternoon restoring oneself with the peacefulness offered by the service of Evensong. All are welcome to attend.
