Mayor Bee To Report On "The State Of The Village"
Mayor Peter A. Bee
What's going on in and around Garden City? Newly elected Garden City Mayor Peter A. Bee will provide a report on the "State of the Village" for Garden City Chamber of Commerce members and guests at its season finale luncheon on May 16, 11:30, at the Garden City Hotel.
"Several attendees at the April 2 Board of Trustees meeting at which Peter Bee was installed as Garden City's 42nd mayor, said they wished more folks could have heard Mayor Bee's overview of the issues and challenges facing the Village - both internal and external. The Chamber now provides that opportunity," said Althea Robinson, executive director.
Mayor Peter Bee brings to the Board of Trustees years of experience and knowledge in government and the law required to handle Garden City's critical issues. He first became active in Village civic affairs during the early 1980s after joining the Eastern Property Owners' Association (EPOA) where he served on the Budget, Taxation & Finance, Recreation and Polices & Fire Committees, and was the EPOA liaison to the Garden City School Board.
In 1989, Peter Bee was elected as a Trustee for the School Board. Following three years of service, he returned to the EPOA to serve as president. He was elected to the Village Board in 1993 and has served as a Village Trustee continuously for these past 14 years. Peter has held virtually every position possible for a Trustee, having served as Commissioner of each of the Village Departments; as Liaison Trustee to each of the Village Boards; as chairman of the Traffic Commission; Recreation & Cultural Affairs Commission; as a member of the Police Commission; and chairman of various mayoral committees. Peter believes that a healthy "downtown" commercial district is to the advantage of Village homeowners, and that the Village's residents benefit by fostering a "main street" atmosphere.
As the Village Board's liaison to the Garden City "senior" community, Mayor Bee's work as a Trustee and liaison to Senior Connections has resulted in the expansion of Village recreational facilities and programs for senior citizens. In 2005, Peter was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his tireless work on behalf of the people of Garden City.
Mayor Peter Bee is a founding partner of the law firm of Bee Ready Fishbein Hatter & Donovan, LLP, a 25 attorney firm with offices in Mineola and Melville. He is a life-long, third generation resident of Garden City.
The Chamber cordially invites both residents and members of the business community to hear Mayor Bee address Garden City's critical issues. The program will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a reception and showcase of various members businesses. Luncheon is served promptly at 12:30. Advance reservations at $60 for Chamber members; $65 for non-members are required. There will be open seating with tables of 8 or 10 reserved. Please respond to
the Chamber by Friday, May 11; mail checks payable to the Garden City Chamber of Commerce; or register on line at www.GardenCityChamber.org.
