The Garden City Checkmate Sharks rolled to three quick victories over the Darien A Team (12-1), Manhasset (7-4), and Greenwich Titans (10-0).

The Sharks are led by Head Coach "Doc" Dougherty, who brings over 25 years experience as GCHS Varsity Head Coach, assisted by Dan Flannery, former captain of GCHS and Duke Lacrosse teams and Frank Tashman, a former All American standout at Adelphi University.

On March 31st, the Sharks defeated the Darien A team 12-1 and defeated Manhasset the following day at USMMA, 7-4. On April 14th they faced and defeated the larger and older Greenwich Titans, 10-0.

All three games were highlighted by an extremely stingy Shark's defense. Long-polers, Steve Jahelka, Brian Fischer, Brian Porter, Tom Adams, JP Burnside, Eugene Berkery and Andre Stone combined in front of Goalies, John Bock and Dan Marino to allow only 5 goals over 3 games to opposing teams.

The outstanding defensive effort allowed the Sharks offense to take the game to the opponents. Middies, Tom Gordon, Shane Thornton, Matt Clarkson, Sean Mahon, Matt Confort, Kyle Irwin, Patrick Berkery, Rob Savage and Brendan Cullen connected with the Shark attackmen, Brian Coleman, Charlie Garcia, Devin Dwyer, Liam Kennedy, John Fallon and Michael Lofrese to hit the back of the net 29 times over the same 3 games.

The Sharks have upcoming games against Glenridge NJ on April 21st at CW Post at 2:30PM. On Sunday April 22nd they face Greenwich 8A at USMMA at 11 AM. Next Saturday, April 28th, they face-off against Cockeysville MD at 3 PM at USMMA. The Sharks are expecting strong challenges in all of those games.
