Pastel Artist Aubrey Kosicki O'Meara helps Garden City High School art students with their work at an Arts-in-Education workshop held last month. Art students at Garden City High School recently gathered in the Art Department to examine three large works by pastel artist Aubrey Kosicki O'Meara at a special workshop conducted by the artist. Ms. O'Meara demonstrated the use of pastels and offered tips on how students might proceed with their own paintings.

The group also discussed essential pastel techniques, including the blending of colors and the use of textured papers. Ms. O'Meara said she selected the paintings she brought with her because they are good examples of how lighting can be used to enhance a subject.

Ms. O'Meara currently works in the fashion industry. She studied General Fine Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Fashion Institute of Technology. She told the students that the fashion industry needs professionals with an eye for art, which a background in fine arts helps to develop.

The workshop was an Arts-in-Education presentation, a program coordinated by the Arts-in-Education Committee of the Garden City School District Parent Teacher Association funded by the Garden City Union Free School District.
