What a week! First the cold, then the storm that stalled and finally came with the floods and high winds, and then the report about the Governor of New Jersey being severely injured and all because he was not wearing his seat belt. Here in Garden City, our Police do regular seat belt checks and believe it or not, they do get many people who are not wearing them. "I was only going a short distance," "I forgot or I thought I put in on," and even in some cases - "I hate to wear it." You can make laws about wearing seat belts (and other things), but there are always those who feel it will never happen to them. I do hope that what happened to the Governor makes them aware of what could happen to them and do something about it. buckle up!

Virginia Bertonis is in Winthrop-University Hospital after a fall at home. She is doing nicely, but some of those get-well cards from her many friends would make the recovery time much nicer and faster. We all hope to see her out playing bridge again very soon.
Happy Birthday greetings go to Nancy Pastula who will be celebrating her special day very soon and to Buz Anderl, who will be doing ditto before April leaves us. Many happy returns of the day to you both and may you have many more special days to enjoy in health and happiness.
Buz Anderl had a special treat for his birthday when his wife Ethlyn hosted a family party for him at the Garden City Hotel. Everyone had a wonderful time. What a nice way to bring in another year.
Happy wedding anniversary wishes to Joyce and Robert McCarthy, who celebrated their 52 nd year together as did Patricia and Patrick Quinn (same number of years - 52). May both couples have a great year and many more years of wedded bliss to enjoy in good health and much happiness.
