Rams 5th Graders Open Season

Will Harrington winding up for a shot
Will Harrington winding up for a shot The Dutton/Hughes/McCullough 5th grade Rams team opened their season with home field advantage against a formidable Three Village squad. Three Village came out strong, dominating the ball most of the first quarter, requiring GC's defense of Finneran, Halaby, Scott and Guarino to work overtime getting the ball downfield. Their efforts were realized as GC's James Dutton caught a pass, came around the cage and shot the ball top shelf for his first of three goals of the game. The lead was short, as a goal was quickly racked-up for Three Village. With Patrick Finneran relentless on defense, intercepting three passes during the game converting one for an assist, GC was able to end the first half with a 2-1 lead. With constant pressure on the opposing goalie by Jack Donnelly and an aggressive midfield of Riedell (1 assist), Aneser, Burdi, Vouzianis and Zinga the second half saw more play for the GC offense of Dutton, Donnelly and Miller. But a goal by Will Harrington (2G), who dominated the field, broke the game open as GC picked-up momentum. This goal was matched by another for Three Village, but Harrington couldn't be stopped as he let another go for a GC lead. The Three Village team didn't give up; requiring goalie Brian Hughes to make several crucial saves in the second half. But with a little under 3 minutes left in the game, Three Village scored ending the game in a 5-5 tie. The boys will next take-on Manhasset on April 15th.
