Garden City Basketball - Thank you!

2007-04-06 / Sports

If you didn't receive your certificate of appreciation/accomplishment from the JrNBA/JrWNBA and/or medal for participating in Garden City Basketball, please let us know. If your coach doesn't have your certificate, we will produce another. Every boy and girl 6th grade and under is also awarded a Garden City Basketball MEDAL!

A big THANK YOU to everyone that participated in our program. The Garden City Basketball program was better than we could have ever imagined. With over 550 participants in our first season and a focus on fun, this has built the foundation for a bright future. We hope that you and your children enjoyed the season as well and will be back in the fall. It is never too early to signup. Online Registration for the 2007/2008 season is open if you would like to signup now.

The Pizza Party on our last Friday night, March 23rd, for the Boys 7th/8th/9th grade was a blast! The boys made their own teams and created brackets for their own version of March Madness. More than half the games went to OT for added excitement.

If anyone is interested in summer league play, please give us a call. Summer teams are normally formed by mid-April and games take place weeknights.

On Sunday March 25th, our "Hoops that Help" event was a big success. We had Tom Pecora Hofsta's Head Coach, James Cosgrove Adelphi's Men's Coach, Kelley Watts Adelphi Women's Coach, Larry Steimer Garden City Men's Varsity Coach, Howie Frajberg Valley Stream North's Varsity Men's Coach, and dozens of local college/high school players providing expert instruction at our sessions. "Hoops that Help" is a charity basketball clinic that Garden City Basketball has partnered with TWIGs of Winthrop University Hospital to benefit Winthrop's Child Life Program. The Child Life Program focuses on helping children cope with the fear and anxiety of hospitalization. This special event was hosted by Adelphi University's Athletic Department. Refreshments were served throughout the day and everyone had the opportunity to win an exciting raffle prize and receive a "Hoopster" t-shirt! If you have any questions about this event, please visit the TWIGs website at www.winthrop.org/resources/volunteer/twigs.cfm. You may also contact the chairpersons; Debra Weber at 741-9259 or Joanne K. Adams at 248-7132.
