Sally Ann Breslin
Sally Ann Breslin
Sally, a Garden City resident known by many as a daily walker around town, ended her tenacious fight against cancer on March 22, peacefully, at her Garden City home attended by her sister Mary Mathers and brothers Billy and Ted. In her 54 years of life Sally devoted herself to children - doting on her nieces and nephews and throughout her career in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit at Winthrop University Hospital where she rose to the position of Nurse Manager.
Sally touched many lives, nurturing, nursing, caring and sharing the struggles of parents of hundreds of "preemies" to whom she gave a new lease on life. It is her love for and devotion to others that will be long remembered.
Sally is survived by her beloved parents, Robert and Elizabeth Breslin of Garden City, her devoted sister Mary Mathers (Allen) of Garden City and brothers Robert Jr. (Dana) of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, Edward (Kathleen) of Plandome and William Breslin (Elizabeth) of Garden City; nieces and nephews Christina Roberts (Jason); Matthew, Sarah and Amanda Mathers; Kathleen, Michael, Kate, Christopher, Maggie and Mary Kate Breslin and a grand niece, Ava Roberts.
A Memorial Mass was offered for the repose of her soul by Msgr. Douglas Mathers at St. Joseph's RC Church, Garden City, on Monday, March 26, 2007, attended by family, friends, co-workers as well as infants and young people whose lives she and her co-workers had saved.
Sally's selflessness continues in her request to memorialize her not with flowers, but with a donation in her name to the Development Office, Winthrop University Hospital, 290 Old Country Road, (Suite22) Mineola, NY 11530, and specifying use in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit where Sally lived her vocation, so that the next generation of "preemies" could continue to receive the care that her dedicated co-workers provide.
