Adelphi Co-Sponsors Partnerships in Health Conference
Adelphi University is pleased to host and co-sponsor with HealthNets, Western Suffolk BOCES, State Bank of Long Island, Dilworth and Barrese LLP, and the New York State Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the 6th annual Partnerships in Health Conference, on Friday, April 20, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on the second floor of Adelphi's Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City. The annual conference will bring together health care professionals, educators, and students to improve the health of today's youth.
The conference will begin with opening remarks by Dr. Jean Harris, HealthNets conference chair and Adelphi professor, followed by a welcome address by Adelphi President Robert A. Scott, and keynote address by Dr. Ruth Kershner, associate professor, school health coordinator, and faculty student liaison at West Virginia University School of Medicine. She is a strong supporter of women's health issues, particularly sexual assault prevention and violence against women. She is a recipient of several awards including the American Association of Health Education University Professor of the Year Award, and the West Virginia Health Education Teacher of the Year Award, among many others. Several workshops on various topics, such as violence prevention, drug abuse, nutrition, sex education, and technology resources will be offered.
HealthNets, a professional organization that promotes the exchange of ideas in teaching and research among health educators, was founded in 1997 by two Adelphi University faculty members. Through this organization, members can network and communicate year-round sharing news and information about new and innovative teaching methods, research strategies and conferences in the field.
