On Saturday, March 24th, Garden City's boy's JV lacrosse team faced St. Anthony's in a non-league game. St. Anthony's won the game by a score of 13-3. Congratulations to 13 year old Michael Lofrese, 2007 NY State Youth Wrestling Champion in the 95-lb Schoolboy bracket! Michael was outstanding as he edged out extremely tough opponents in all of his matches and earned the #1 spot on the awards podium with a much-coveted Gold Medal around his neck. More ... All disabilities welcome (girls and boys). More ... This past Saturday the Xtreme traveled to East Meadow to play the East Meadow Starz in round one of the Waldbaums Cup. The sunshine dried up the fields nicely and the team was very excited to be back outdoors. Both teams looked a little rusty in the first 15 minutes of the match, but the Xtreme kept pressure on the Starz defense throughout the match and went home a 3-0 winner. More ... In the first round of the A&P Waldbaum's Cup, the U14 Fireballs came up with a tremendous effort and beat the Cold Spring Harbor Glory after two overtimes and penalty kicks. More ... Garden City's girls varsity lacrosse team opened their season on Thursday, March 22nd with a convincing 21-3 win over East Islip. Senior Elise Terracciano had five goals and two assists for the Trojans. Becky Lynch, Caroline McTiernan and Erin Brennan scored three goals each while Lauren Terracciano and Dayna Defliese each had two. More ... On Monday, March 26th at Glen Cove, junior Colin Ridgway took the mound for the Trojans. He struck out five and walked three on his way to the first opening day no-hitter in Garden City history. Pat Sylvester led the offense as he went 2-for-3 with two RBI's. More ... The Garden City boys varsity lacrosse team opened its season on Friday, March 23rd. In his first game as head coach, Steve Finnell was welcomed with an 18-1 victory over Mepham. Dean Gibbons lead the Trojans scoring with five goals, followed by Dan Savage who scored four. More ... The Grapplers Youth Wrestling Tournament Team spent the weekend of March 9th-11th in Port Jervis, NY at the Annual NY State Kids Folkstyle Wrestling Championship. They went up against over 500 of the "Best-of-the-Best" youth wrestlers in New York State at this fiercely competitive season finale tournament. More ... easter hunt announced The Garden City Recreation Department's Annual Easter Hunt for PreK to 5 th graders will be held on Saturday, April 7 th at Garden City Community Park. The Storm capped off a great season by winning the 3rd/4th Grade Girls GCAA Intramural Playoffs. After a slow start to begin the season, the girls all rallied together to begin playing some great basketball. They all put in a tremendous effort and had a lot of fun doing so. More ... The Varsity Baseball Squad enters the 2007 season looking to defend their Nassau County Class A Baseball title. The Trojans face the challenge of a difficult schedule, along with replacing pitching standouts Matt Petiton and Joe Cesarini. The Trojans were 74 and 9 over the last 3 seasons with Petiton and Cesarini anchoring a solid pitching staff. More ...
