Meghan Creaven and her dad. Why wait for June? Earlier this winter, students in Virginia McCavera's second grade class at Stratford Avenue School paid special tribute to their dads and granddads at a brunch the students had spent months preparing. With a little help from their mothers, as well as Mrs. McCavera, the students served their fathers and grandfathers muffins they had baked; presented them with handmade, gift wrapped calendars noting all the fathers' birthdays; performed songs and recited poetry; and delivered speeches that they had composed about why their fathers or grandfathers are special. "The students were perfect hosts and hostesses for their special guests," Mrs. McCavera said. A special day honoring mothers and grandmothers is planned for the spring.
