Earlier this winter, students in Virginia McCavera's second grade class at Stratford Avenue School paid special tribute to their dads and granddads at a brunch the students had spent months preparing. With a little help from their mothers, as well as Mrs. McCavera, the students served their fathers and grandfathers muffins they had baked; presented them with handmade, gift wrapped calendars noting all the fathers' birthdays; performed songs and recited poetry; and delivered speeches that they had composed about why their fathers or grandfathers are special. "The students were perfect hosts and hostesses for their special guests," Mrs. McCavera said. A special day honoring mothers and grandmothers is planned for the spring.
