The two mainstays of the 2006-07 Garden City boys varsity basketball team have received acclaim: Rob Finneran was named All-County and Conference Player of the Year, and Harry Kutner, All-Conference.
The inseparable and unselfish Co-Captains, who have played together for years, ironically and fittingly scored the same number of points for the season, 294, for an identical 15.5 points per game average. Finneran also averaged 10.1 rebounds, for a season "double-double."
Finneran and Kutner's styles were the perfect compliments for each other: Finneran led the Trojans in rebounding, blocked shots and steals, and was "Mr. Inside" all year for the Trojans. Kutner, "Mr. Outside," led the team in three pointers and assists, and was second in steals.
The two provided 56% of Garden City's scoring for the year, and Coach Steimer declared, "They'll be hard to replace, not just for their scoring, but their leadership and willingness to step up, take over games, and make the key plays at crunch time. Both boys worked very hard in practice as well as games all year long, setting a tough standard and making it impossible for the other boys to slack off. When your stars work hard, the team benefits."

Coach Steimer continued, "Harry and Rob were special kids, with great character, unassuming of their star status, and a pleasure to coach. I wish them the luck I know they'll have."
