Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem

Police conducted a truck stop at Clinton Rd. on February 13, and 19 trucks were inspected with 14 trucks taken out of service; 6 for overweight. One driver had a suspended license and 113 tickets were issued... On February 9, a 44-year-old Roosevelt man allegedly stole a $39 pair of Reebok sneakers at Sears, Franklin Avenue... Between July 17 and February 6, someone stole a $3,770 highway line remover from the Village yard... PO Jacobsen arrested a 36-year-old Copaigue man at 6 p.m. on February 12, after the driver was observed without a license plate light on his truck. The motorist was then arrested for various equipment violations including 3 defective lights, aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd degree, aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree, false personation for showing a false ID, and for outstanding warrants including a warrant for the failure to use an interlock ignition device, which requires the motorist to get a blood alcohol level before starting the truck...On February 8, a 67-year-old New Hyde Park woman allegedly took a $95 Lauren sweatshirt at Lord and Taylor...PO Tuohy arrested a 56-year-old Garden City man for harassment against a Library employee, which became a hate crime, on February 8...On February 9, between 2 and 11 p.m., someone damaged a storage shed and hockey ring at the GC Community Park. $200 damage...PO Wedra and PO Reynolds stopped a 51-year-old Mineola man who was driving without headlights on Huntington Rd. at 12:03 a.m. on February 11. The man was subsequently arrested for the possession of crack cocaine and for the possession of a 16" billy club. There were equipment violations as well... On February 11, a 25-year-old Holtsville man reported that he had been assaulted by an unknown assailant at the Posh Club, GC Hotel. He was taken to Winthrop Hospital...On February 6, PO Reilly arrested a 48-year-old Merrick man for improper plates, unregistered vehicle, no insurance,and speeding at Clinton Rd...On February 9, just before midnight, a car struck a tree at Poplar Street/Clinton Rd. and an 18-year-old South Hempstead male, who was a passenger in the car, was later pronounced dead at Nassau University Medical Center. The driver of the car, a 17-year-old South Hempstead male, was arrested for DWI-drugs and the 2 other passengers in the car, both female and 18-years-old from GC, suffered head injuries and were taken to Winthrop Hospital. The GC Police and the Nassau County Homocide Squad are still investigating the matter...

There was an oil burner blow back at a Spruce Street house on February 9... The FD went to the scene of a fire in an electrical vault in the sidewalk in front of the Waterzooi Restaurant, Franklin Avenue, on February 9. LIPA was called to the scene and a 1 3/4" handline was used to extinguish the fire...An iron activated a detector at Eddy Hall, Adelphi University, on February 11... Keyspan came to the scene of an odor of natural gas at Hamilton Place, on February 11... Plumbers set off an alarm at the Cathedral School of Theology on February 12...Firemen shut off an electrical range that had been arcing at an Adams St. house on February 13...That's all this week.
