Thomas Francis Moran

Thomas Francis Moran passed away peacefully on the morning of December 15th in West Grove, PA. His long life of 79 years was filled with love for his family, his many friends and his beloved Notre Dame.

He was born on August 28, 1927, son of the late Thomas and Camille Moran of Garden City. He graduated from Garden City High School and the University of Notre Dame. He served his country in World War II as part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He retired in 1994 after 35 years with the Rexam Corporation. His reputation for integrity, honesty, devoutness to his faith and a terrific sense of humor was well-known by his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, his sister Gail and his aunt Amee. He is survived by his brother Donald, brother-in-law David Morton and daughters Nancy Moran, Barbara Moran, Janice Moran and Meghan Malinowski. He also will be greatly missed by his five grandchildren who knew him as Pop-pop. Most of all, they will remember the love he had for all of them.

The family would like to give special thanks to his nurses at Jenner's Pond for the love and extraordinary care. He adored them and they him.

A Mass of Christian burial and interment will be at the University of Notre Dame. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 13th at Immaculate Conception Church in Towson, MD. Arrangements were handled by Bubb Funeral Chapel North in Mishawaka, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Thomas F. Moran Endowment Fund at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556.

Mary G. Tapia

Mary G. Tapia of Garden City, NY and Highland Lakes, NJ passed away on Dec. 14th after a short illness.

A life-long patron of the arts, she was particularly fond of opera and collected bronze sculptures. Upon retiring from Exxon Mobil after 36 years, where she was active in the Oil and Derrick Club, the Lending Library and Junior Achievement, she devoted her life to volunteerism. Named Vernon Township Senior Citizen of the Year in 1978, Miss Tapia was a member of the Sussex County Office on Aging, served on the Senior Citizen Advisory Board and was a founder and member of the Board of the Vernon Friends of the Library.

She was active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for more than 20 years, where she worked with the Sussex County Head Start program, the Wallkill Valley Hospital Medical Records Center, the Sussex County Nutrition program, the Meals-on-Wheels program, the Hilltop Montessori School and the Red Cross. She volunteered at several hospitals including Winthrop Hospital in Mineola, where she was recently honored after more than 100 hours of service.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Emelie Tapia of Saratoga Springs, NY; two nephews, Wallace Tapia of Colchester, VT and Robert Rivera of NY; six nieces, Melita Tapia of Saratoga Springs, NY, Anita Caezza of Franklin Square, NY, Loretta Tapia of Queens Village, NY, Maria Shugars of Richmond, VA, Evelyn Hale of Wesley Chapel, FL and Louise Rivera of NY; and seven grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Interment will be at Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale. Arrangements were handled by Krauss Funeral Home, Inc. of Franklin Square.

Eve Margaret (Shreffler) Eberle

Eve Margaret (Shreffler) Eberle of Lexington, MA, died Monday afternoon, December 18, 2006 in her residence at Brookhaven in Lexington after a lengthy illness. She was 97.

Born in Akron, Ohio on January 31, 1909, the daughter of the late James and Emma (Halloway) Shreffler, raised in Akron, she had been a longtime resident of Garden City, prior to moving to Lexington, Massachusetts 11 years ago. She received her Bachelors Degree from Wheaton College in Massachusetts with the Class of 1930 and her Masters and Doctorial Degrees from Columbia University in New York.

Mrs. Eberle had worked with the YMCA in the Midwest and the National Board of the Junior League. She was the Director of Field Services for the U.S. Committee of UNICEF and had initiated UNICEF’s “Trick or Treat” program.

She was world traveled and had the opportunity to meet various captains of industry and heads of state.

A member of the Hancock United Church of Christ in Lexington, she had been a longtime member of the P.E.O.; she enjoyed music, the symphony and was a Red Sox Baseball fan.

Mrs. Eberle was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Eberle in 1975.

She is survived by her daughters, Page Vandewater of Waltham and Joan Young of Topsfield, her grandchildren and many beloved friends.

Funeral Services were to be celebrated on Friday, December 22nd at 11:30 a.m. in theChapel of the Hancock United Church of Christ, 1912 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington. Interment and Committal Service was to be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Topsfield.
