The Recreation Department has received tickets on consignment for the following performances at the Nassau Coliseum - Disney on Ice - 100 Years of Magic Wed. 1/17/07 at 7:30 p.m. Cost $15.25 Disney on Ice - 100 Years of Magic Sat. 1/20/07 at 11 a.m. Cost $24.00 Monster Truck Jam Sun. 2/11/07 at 2 p.m. Cost $21.50 Cost $14.00 for children under 13 Harlem Globetrotters Sun. 2/18/07 at 1 p.m. Cost $31.50 Tickets can be purchased at the Recreation Office in Village Hall by any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Tickets must be paid for in cash only. A maximum of six tickets will be sold to any one person. winter session of pee wee tennis begins The winter session of our PeeWee tennis lessons begins the week of January 3 rd. Pee Wee Tennis is a beginner program for children ages 5-7 years. The following classes are still available for this level: Mondays4:30-5:25 pm Tuesdays3:30-4:25 pm Tuesdays4:30-5:25 pm Wednesdays3:30-4:25 pm Wednesdays4:30-5:25 pm The cost of this 12 week program is $150 and it is open to any child who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Please note that any child registering for this program MUST be the appropriate age by the start of the session. To register, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall. tennis lessons for the experienced younger player Our Novice level tennis lessons are for children ages 6 and 7 that have taken our peewee lessons, can hit the ball over the net, and are ready to learn the game of tennis. The open classes at the Novice level are: Tuesdays3:30-4:25 pm Wednesdays5:30-6:25 pm Fridays3:30-4:25 pm Saturdays12:30-1:25 pm The cost of this 12 week program is $210 and it is open to any child who is a resident of the Inc. Holiday gym program During the Holiday Recess the Garden City Recreation Department will offer a gym program for children in the Saint Paul’s field house on December 26, 27, 28 and 29. This program is open to youngsters of the Inc. Village of Garden City only. The schedule for these programs will be as follows: Kindergarten and 1st grade - 9 to 10:30 a.m. 2 nd and 3rd grades - 10:30 a.m. to Noon 4 th, 5th, and 6th grades - Noon to 2 p.m. For grades 7 to 12 - the Field House will be open for supervised open play from 2 to 6 p.m. For further information, please call the Recreation Office in Village Hall. holiday movie at cluett The Recreation Department will be showing “Santa Clause 2,” starring Tim Allen at Cluett Hall on Thursday, December 28 at 1 p.m. The movie runs approximately 102 minutes. Admission is free. Popcorn and snacks will be available for a nominal charge. The recreation staff will supervise. chess club meets at the library Children interested in learning the game of chess or wanting to further their skills in the game are invited to join the Recreation Department’s Youth Chess Club. This club meets every Saturday, beginning this Saturday, December 2 nd, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Garden City Library. Any child in grades 3-7 who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City can attend. This is a free program that will run until March. preschool arts and crafts Registration for our winter session of Preschool Arts and Crafts has begun. This six week program will begin the week of January 10 th according to the following schedule: Wednesdays 12:15 to 1 p.m. Thursdays 12:15 to 1 p.m. Any child ages 3 1/2 to five years who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join. The cost of this program is $30. Space is limited to 15 children in each class. To register, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall. Please note that the child registering must be 3 1/2 years old by the start of the session in order to register. letters to santa and candy contest Tis the season to send your letters to Santa and the Recreation Department will help speed up the process. A special “Santa’s Mailbox” will be available in the Village Hall Lobby from December 4th through December 20th. Children can drop their letters in the mailbox and Santa will send them a reply. All letters must be received by 4 p.m. on December 20th in order to insure a reply. All letters must contain a legible address and no postage is necessary. While dropping off their letters to Santa, children can make a chance at guessing the amount of candy contained in the decorated jar located near the mailbox. Drop your guess in the mailbox along with your letter by December 20th and the child with the closest guess wins! HOLIDAY SHOW AND A SPECIAL SURPRISE Put your family in the holiday mood and enjoy a delightful morning program of holiday magic performed by Bill White Productions and a special visit from Santa. Our show will take place on Saturday, December 9th at 10 a.m. in Cluett Hall. Admission to this performance is a wrapped gift valued at $8 which would be suitable for a child aged 4 to 10. Gifts will be collected at the door and redistributed by Santa at the conclusion of the performance. ELEMENTARY PROGRAM IN THE FIELD HOUSE The Recreation Department is pleased to announce that once again this winter we will run an after school gym program in St. Paul’s Field House for children in grades 3-5 who are residents of the Village of Garden City. The free program will begin the week of December 4th and will be held according to the following schedule: Boys in grades 3-6Mondays from 3:30 - 6 p.m. Girls in grades 3-5Fridays from 3:30 - 6 p.m.
Sneakers are required for this program. Our gym program will provide the children an opportunity to participate in hockey, basketball and other gym activities in a structured setting. Supervision will be provided by Rich Anderson and the recreation staff. Please note: Parents are expected to be on time for pick up. Please come down to the field house to pick up your child. MEN’S BASKETBALL ON SATURDAYS The Recreation Department will begin its Saturday morning Men’s Basketball Program this Saturday, December 2nd in the Garden City Middle School’s south gym. The program runs from 9 a.m. to noon and is open to men aged 19 and older who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The games are strictly “pick up” and entry is free. Proof of residency is needed to enter. For further information, please call the Recreation Office at 465-4075. adult tennis lessons during the winter The Recreation Department offers adult tennis lessons in ten week sessions. Our lessons are open to all adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City and are offered at various times during the day and on the weekends. If you are interested in lessons for the upcoming fall season which begins the week of January 21 st, please fill out an interest form at the Garden City Recreation Office in Village Hall not later than December 20 th. Classes will be put together according to ability and day desired on a first come, first serve basis. You will be contacted by our tennis pro, Carrie Strum, to confirm your class. The cost of this 10 week, one hour program will be $199. Payment must accompany this interest form. Please make checks payable to “Inc. Village of Garden City.” Adult Ultimate Workout - This 1 1/2 hr. workout is for the experienced tennis player who wants to hone their skills. It is held on Saturdays from 10 - 11:30 a.m. This program will be offered in 10 week sessions with a start date of January 20 th. The cost of the session is $200. To register for this program, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall. interview dates for summer pool employment The Recreation Department is announcing the start of interviews for summer jobs at the Garden City Pool. If you enjoy being outdoors and are willing to make a commitment to being a part of a team that works hard to provide quality facilities for our residents, we’d like to meet you! If you are presently a high school junior or older and are looking for a great summer job, stop in the Recreation Office in Village Hall, pick up an application, and sign up for an interview. Reminder: even if you were employed by the pool last year, you are still required to reapply and be interviewed for the upcoming pool season. Interviews will be conducted at Village Hall on the following dates:Wednesday, December 27 Saturday, January 6 Saturday, January 20 Saturday, January 27 adult swim at adelphi The Recreation Department’s adult swim program will begin on Monday, October 16 th at Adelphi’s indoor pool located in Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, aged 18 or older. The pool is open for lap swimming on Mondays through Thursdays in one hour time blocks at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Anyone interested in this program must sign up through the Recreation Office. You must register each day you would like to swim by calling the Recreation Office at 465-4075. No reservations will be taken ahead of time and space is limited. adult programs at the field house The Recreation Department’s Adult Programs in the Field House begin on Monday, October 16 th, according to the following schedule: Mondays 7:30 - 10 pm Men’s Open Basketball Men’s Over 40 Basketball Tuesday7:30 - 10 pm Men’s Over 30 Basketball Wednesday7:30 - 10 pm Men’s Open Basketball Men’s Over 40 Basketball Thursday7:30 - 10 pmAdult Volleyball 8:30 - 10 pmAdult Soccer These programs are open to residents of the Inc. If you would like to attend regularly, then we have 20 class passes that cost $60, a savings of $1.00 per class.
