School Board Honors Past Employee

John T. Powell, left, accepts a certificate of appreciation from Garden City School Board President Kenneth J. Monaghan at the November School Board meeting in recognition for five years of exemplary service as assistant superintendent for business and finance. "The long-term financial future of the district is assured largely owing to the prudent reserve and excellent credit rating that John leaves behind," Mr. Monaghan said. "John also was instrumental in negotiating the purchase of the Middle School athletic fields, which will be enjoyed by students and parents for many generations to come." Mr. Powell joined the Great Neck school system in September. He is succeeded by Albert T. Chase.
