Firefighters Tackle Nail Salon Fire

During the morning hours around 8 AM on Wednesday, December 6th, Garden City firefighters were called to a report of a fire at the row of stores located on New Hyde Park Rd. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters encountered a heavy smoke condition coming from the Nail Salon at 47 New Hyde Park Rd. Firefighters, under the command of Fire Chief John P. Casey, forced entry into the building, then located and confined the fire to the single store. A large contingent of firefighters, including over 30 Garden City volunteer firefighters and 7 headquarters company firefighters responded to the scene to work the blaze. In addition, area volunteer fire departments were summoned as mutual aid to the scene to assist. Garden City Fire equipment at scene included 2 Engines, 1 Tower Ladder, 1 Heavy Rescue, and 5 Fire Chief/Officer vehicles. The fire is under routine investigation.
