Each participant will receive a packet that includes hand-outs covering up to date information on genealogy web sites, genealogical societies, genealogy books and magazines, and genealogy software. Antiques From The Five &

Ten Cent Store

Garden City Public Library Wednesday, January 17th 2:00PM

Nostalgia- even the word itself makes you feel good and many of us that remember share a constant and persistent dream. We would like to magically travel backward through time into a downtown 1930's five and dime store such as Woolworth's or J.J. Newberry's. The fact is that just about all dime store merchandise from the golden era, the years 1925-1955, is highly collectible. Learn how seemingly worthless discarded items in your attic or basement could be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars! Registration is limited to Garden City residents and begins Tuesday, January 2nd. Everyone in the audience will get a free appraisal of any one antique or collectible, regardless of what it is or how old it is. For further information please call Laura Flanagan at The Garden City Public Library at 742-8405.

Book Discussion Group

Gloria Weinrich, Panel Moderator, has announced the title of the next book to be discussed on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 from 10 a.m. to noon in the small downstairs meeting room.

Further Lane by James Brady tells the story of news correspondent Beecher Stowe who returns to his family home in Tony East Hampton to finish his book on terrorism. When his neighbor, lifestyle guru Hannah Cutting, is found dead, he begins searching for clues through the Hamptons from redneck bars to rich men's estates to the Shinnecock Indian Reservation culminating in a September hurricane.

Books will be available at the reference desk beginning December 17 th. No registration is necessary but participation is limited to the first 20 applicants.

We invite you to join the Garden City Public Library's first Adult Winter Reading Club to be held from December 4th to March 23rd. Receive a gift just for signing up! There are no meetings. You will then be entered into a final drawing to be held at the "Cozy Up with a Good Book" Brunch (invitation only) to be held on March 30th. The more review cards you fill out, the more chances you have to win! Registration is for Garden City adult residents only and begins Monday, December 4th. So come and register, pick up your packet and gift at the Reference desk and cozy up with a good book. For further information please call Laura Flanagan at The Garden City Public Library 742-8405.
