Village Tree Lighting Ceremony This Sunday

It is hoped that Santa will again appear at the Village Tree Lighting on Sunday.
Once again the Village Gazebo will become the setting for the 52nd Village Tree Lighting Ceremony, coordinated by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Astoria Federal Savings.

This Sunday, December 3rd between 3:30 and 4:30pm, Santa will arrive on a Garden City fire truck to assist Mayor Gerard Lundquist in the lighting of the Village's three holiday trees located at the Village Gazebo, in front of village Hall and the mall at Franklin and Stewart Avenues.

Once again the Village Music Makers will ring in the sounds of the season and holiday choral music will be preformed by the Garden City High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Robert Ludwig.

A multi-entertainer will perform and Kingsley Bear (courtesy of Kings Supermarket) will be on hand with goodies for the young ones. The Garden City Volunteer Fire department will serve hot chocolate in conjunction with the Manor Delicatessen. There will be cookies courtesy of Bagelman, Riesterer's Bake Shop, Dunkin Donuts and Kings Supermarkets. Astoria Federal will have plenty of giveaways for the little ones.

Many hands are at work to make this a meaningful event. The Chamber especially acknowledges Astoria Federal Savings and the Garden City Fire, Police and Recreation Departments, along with the Village forces that decorate the Village's business districts.

Stewart Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic between 3 and 4:45pm. There will not be a rain date. The trees will be lighted rain, snow or shine.
