Garden City Senior News The Garden City Recreation Department has secured tickets to the Broadhollow Theatre Company's performance of "The King and I" on Wednesday, January 24 th. We will meet in the parking lot of the new Senior Center at St. Paul's at 1 p.m. and travel by Recreation Bus to the Broadhollow Theatre in Elmont for a 2 p.m. show. We will return to the Senior Center when the show is finished. The cost of each ticket is $25. Space is limited for this performance. Reservations can be made at the Recreation Office in Village Hall on a first come, first served basis. Full payment must accompany the reservation. CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE AND SING ALONG On Monday, December 11th at 12:30 p.m. the Recreation Department will sponsor an Open House and Sing-a-long to celebrate the Holiday season. Any senior who resides in the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to attend. You may bring your lunch if you wish and snacks, cakes, goodies, soft drinks, and good cheer will be provided. These programs will be held at the New Senior Center at St. Paul's. Senior Trip To Jones Beach Holiday Light Spectacular The Garden City Recreation Department will sponsor a trip to see the "Holiday Light Spectacular" at Jones Beach State Park. Any senior who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, aged 60 or older is invited to attend this trip. The trip will be taken on the following dates: Thursday,December 7 Monday,December 11 The recreation bus will leave from Village Hall at 4:45 p.m. The trip is free, but preregistration is necessary and space on the bus is limited. You may register for only one of the two trips, by calling the Recreation Office in Village Hall at 465-4075. Garden city seniors invited to a presentation on the civil war All seniors are invited to attend a presentation on "The Civil War" on Thursday, December 14 th at 1 p.m. in the Senior Center at St. Paul's. This discussion will be led by Mr. Jack Griffin, former managing editor of UPI and Civil War expert. Mr. Griffin will discuss what might have turned out differently during that critical time in our nation's history. Please feel free to come early, bring your lunch and join other seniors in this informative presentation. sewing at the new senior center at St. Paul's Beginning Thursday, November 30 th at 1 p.m. , if you sew, crochet, knit, or want to learn how, please come to the "Sewing Plus" circle at the new Senior Center in the cottages at St. Paul's. The group will be making lots more fun items for hospitalized children and lap robes for those slightly older. This group is open to all senior men and women who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. All materials will be provided; however, bringing your own scissors, knitting needles, and crochet hooks is helpful. The group meets on Thursdays at 11 a.m. at the new Senior Center at St. Paul's, walks, and then brings their lunch to enjoy at the Senior Center after the walk. tuesdays at the New Senior center Our senior residents are invited to join Andrew Karen, recreation staff member, to "Board Game Tuesday" at the new Senior Recreation Center at St. Paul's. Andrew will be there every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. to coordinate anyone interested in checkers challenges, chess matches, or any of our other board games kept at the Center. Feel free to bring a friend and visit our facility and see Andrew on Tuesdays for further information. wednesdays at the new senior recreation center We invited any senior resident interested in getting out and socializing to bring your lunch to the new Senior Recreation Center at noon on Wednesdays. The new Senior Recreation Center is located in the Cottages behind St. Paul's on Rockaway Ave. All are welcome. tickets to shows at nassau coliseum available The Recreation Department has received tickets on consignment for the following performances at the Nassau Coliseum - Disney on Ice - 100 Years of Magic Wed. 1/17/07 at 7:30 p.m. Cost $15.25 Disney on Ice - 100 Years of Magic Sat. 1/20/07 at 11 a.m. Cost $24.00 Harlem Globetrotters Sun. 2/18/07 at 1 p.m. Cost $31.50 Tickets can be purchased at the Recreation Office in Village Hall by any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Tickets must be paid for in cash only. A maximum of six tickets will be sold to any one person.
