In Memoriam Virgil V. Bogert 95, of St. Charles, IL died Tuesday, November 7 at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, IL. He was born October 1, 1911 in Stoddard, Wisconsin, the son of John Harold and Nettie (Stickney) Bogert. Mr. Bogert received a PhD in Chemistry from New York University in 1940. Dr. Bogert was a research development chemist for Charles Pfizer (Pharmaceuticals) in Brooklyn, New York from 1940 to 1976. During World War II, as part of Virgil's work, he was in the research on and production of penicillin in time for use by the armed forces in the latter part of the war. He resided in Garden City from 1951-1979, where he was an active member of the Garden City Community Church. He was a member of The American Chemical Society, Sigma Xi Fraternity, The New York Academy of Science. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Erma (nee Stroh) Bogert; his son, Dixon Bogert of St. Charles, and his daughter Elva (Michael) Crawford of Fairfax, Virginia and a grandson, Evan Bogert Crawford of Fort Collins, Colorado. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Opal Bogert Adams. A service to celebrate his life was held on November 12 the the Congregational United Church of Christ St. Charles, IL. A private committal service was held.
