Knights' Middle Initial "C" Stands for Charity "The middle initial 'C' stands for Charity," says Grand Knight Bob Guida of the Msgr. John C. Seidenschwang Knights of Columbus ("Msgr. John's Knights"). And that sounds right in tune for a group whose theme is,"Join in the fun of helping others, join the Knights today." GK Bob, Concert Chairman "Jay" Lynch and their group of dedicated planners aim to increase St. Anne's future Catholic high school scholarship grants to $2,000 each and also make a generous one-time $500 grant to M.A.D.D., "Mothers Against Drunk Driving." And to supply the wherewithal they're banking on recording artist and TV/stage star Andy Cooney and his gifted group of Irish entertainers attracting a major turnout in St. Anne's McCloskey Auditorium, Dartmouth St. and New Hyde Park Road on Friday evening, Dec. 1.Co-starring with Andy Cooney--christened by the N.Y. Times as "Irish America's favorite son"--will be Noel Ginnity--Ireland's funniest man, musicians Jane Hunt, Ben Power, Colm Graham, Paddy Higgins, Musical Director Ken Sanfilippo and the Neil O'Leary Irish Dance Troupe. The evening is titled, Andy Cooney's "Classic Irish Christmas." The Knights have dedicated the show to the memory of the late Msgr. William F. Costello who passed away July 18 after a tragic roadside accident while on vacation in East Hampton. He had served his last eight years in active retirement at St. Anne's Church. By coincidence , his first assignment was at St. Joseph's Church also in Garden City. Diocesan Bishop William Murphy remembered him as "one of the most beloved priests in the diocese. ...He had a great deal of common sense and a precious gift of gentle humor." St. Anne's pastor Msgr. "Father John" Gilmartin noted, "To us, Msgr. Costello was truly the Cure of Ars--the patron saint of priests..." Tickets for the show are $25 each. If you cannot come, take a "Sponsor" listing in the program, $25 for yourself, or a couple, or in remembrance of a departed one. Returns from "Sponsor" listings help underwrite the cost of the show and complimentary tickets for invited nuns and clergy. Tickets and "Sponsor" listings in the program may be ordered by calling 516-352-2457.
