Cathedral Singers Take Part In Choral Festival

Larry Tremsky, organist and choirmaster along with Simon Edmonds-Langham from Christ Church, Rye, New York and Stephen Tamke and Sam Newman from the Cathedral Choirs at the San Francisco Choral Festival.
Two members of the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys, Sam Newman and Stephen Tamke, accompanied by Canon Larry Tremsky, traveled to San Francisco on September 21st to take part in the second annual Michaelmas Choral Festival at Grace Cathedral. This event is made up of select Men and Boys choirs from across the United States who come together to rehearse for three days and then sing Sunday morning Eucharist and afternoon Evensong in the Cathedral. As an added bonus, the Evensong this year included the special Service of Investiture for the new Bishop of California, all accompanied by the splendid Cathedral organ and the brass of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. To quote from the printed program: "Today we are joined by a select group of singers representing some of the most distinguished church music programs in this country. Though choirs of men and boys are increasingly rare in the Episcopal Church, the remaining few are thriving, a testament to their powerful witness of education, inspiration and spiritual formation."

The boy and girl choristers from the Cathedral take regularly take part in events such as theSan Franciscofestival, in addition to choir camp every summer and periodic tours toEngland. The Cathedral choristers come from throughoutNassauCounty, and no religious or denominational affiliation is necessary. If you and your child are interested in exploring this unique opportunity for musical development, please call Larry Tremsky, Organist and Master of the Choirs at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, (516)746-2955, to set up a simple interview.
