Girls Varsity Volleyball Team Finishes Undefeated

After clinching the Conference title, the girls congratulate their opponents
After the dust settled on Tuesday, the girls' varsity volleyball team ended their regular season 16-0 (17-0 overall) by defeating # 4 seeded Hewlett (25-13, 25-27, 25-17, 25-14). This marked the first regular season undefeated volleyball team in the Garden City record books. Against the Bulldogs, GC showed its balanced offense as Laura Haynes (16), Rebecca Langer (10), Kaitlyn Olsen (6), and Amanda Joyce (6) combined for 38 of 44 kills, while Langer scorched Hewlett with 10 aces in 23 serves. Jenna Kirschner (15) and Allison Castel (10) led the attack by dishing out 25 assists. Laura Haynes was unstoppable up front with 10 blocks, and Amanda Joyce, Rebecca Langer, and Kaitlyn Olsen chipped in 3 blocks apiece. Jackie Bishop and Carolyn Cutrone anchored the defense while Madison Horl, Taylor Becker, and Lisa Yanosik provided all round support.

The Lady Trojans head into the Nassau County "A" classification playoffs seeded # 1, and they will go up against Floral Park in a quarterfinal match at GC High School on Tuesday 10/31. Middle Hitter, Laura Haynes, says "Volleyball is a real team effort. Without a good pass, there can't be a good set. Without a good set, there can't be a good kill. On defense, we're all there to back each other up. Everyone on our team is a true team player and I'm proud to be one of them." Outside attacker Rebecca Langer stated, "Everybody on our team has a specific role, and we came together from the beginning of the season. We all contribute and support each other. We have great teamwork, great team spirit, and we have great intensity. If we're down a few points, we never give up". Team co-captain Amanda Joyce added, "This has been a most amazing season, and being a part of this team has been an incredible experience. We're working hard, and we're looking forward to doing well in the playoffs."
