The girls took on the Valley Stream Thunder at St. Paul's last Sunday in a tough league battle. Playing on a day with a very strong wind gusting across the field both teams had an added challenge and both stepped up their game. Playing solid two-way soccer, the Fireballs moved the ball through the midfield on many occasions but just couldn't come up with the finishing touch once inside the 18 yard box. While on the other side of the ball, the Thunder took advantage of the strong wind and were able to get behind the Fireball defense and got on the scoreboard late in the first half. The second half saw a fired up GC team come up with the equalizer on a great effort by Courtney Chmil as she drove through the box and made a nice move to get behind the keeper. With great pressure from all sides of the field the Fireballs pressed to get the game winner but just couldn't get a ball past the VS keeper. And the game ended in a tough 1-1 tie. Hopefully everyone had a safe Halloween and we look forward to a match at home against the Smithtown Patriots at 12:30 on Sunday. Good Luck girls!
