Audrey Chirico On Sunday, October 29th, a Mass was said by Reverend Gabriel Muteru of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in remembrance of the one year passing of Audrey Chirico, a long time resident of Garden City. Audrey passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2005. To her family and friends, she was a beacon of vitality. Her smile could light up a room. She believed that life is what you make it and that you create your own happiness. But you don't do it alone - you do it with and for others. And she lived her life exactly that way. Her home was warm and inviting place where everyone was welcome. She had an exquisite sense of style that was evident in everything she did. Andrey was born in Calabria, Italy and came to the United States as a teen in 1932. Her family lived in Greenwich Village where she met and married Vincent Chirico in 1936. In 1950, they moved to Bayside, Queens, where they raised their three daughters. Audrey worked as the Head of Food Services in PS 14 in Bayside and Vincent was a home builder on Long Island. In 1979, after the passing of her beloved husband, Audrey moved to Garden City. Here she resumed her life and made wonderful new friends with whom she could share her culinary and creative talents as well as her love for Bridge. She was active in the parish of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed serving at the Altar and Rosary Society. Just one month before her passing despite her diminishing health, she attended the elevation ceremony of her grandson, Reverend Edward J. Filardi, to the title of Monsignor at the Nation Shrine in Washington DC. It was a day of great joy. Audrey is survived by her brother, John Tripodi, of Mineola and her daughters, Vivian Larese and Michele Chirico of Huntington and Joan Filardi, of Columbia, MD. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Audrey made the world a warmer place, a more beautiful place. She will be missed for her strength, her generosity, her faith, her style, her laughter, her love.
