Varsity Golfers Run Clinic At Hempstead Schools

Late last month, members of Garden City High School's girls and boys varsity golf teams journeyed off campus to Hempstead, where they helped elementary school students from Jackson Main, Jackson Annex, and Ludlum schools hone their golfing skills. The Garden City team members gave the Hempstead students pointers in how to improve their grip, perfect their stance, achieve the perfect swing-and have fun while doing so.

The program grew out of a meeting last spring between athletic directors Nancy Kalafus, of the Garden City School District, and Robert Cincotta, of the Hempstead School District.

"We wanted to get our two districts working together on projects that would benefit both sets of students and allow neighbors to meet neighbors," Ms. Kalafus said. "Judging by the smiles on the faces of both sets of students and the fact that the Hempstead students wanted to know if the Garden City golfers were coming every Thursday, I think we were extremely successful."

The start of a great shot...the stance....and the follow through.
