Residents To Host Yuletide Ball Fundraiser

Maureen and Cummin Clancy
Long-time Garden City residents Cummin and Maureen Clancy have generously volunteered to host the Winthrop-University Hospital annual holiday fundraiser, the Yuletide Ball, at their beautiful Stewart Avenue home on December 9. The event will raise funds in support of Winthrop's Child Life Program and the Hospital's pediatric services.

Mr. and Mrs. Clancy, who celebrated their golden (50th) wedding anniversary in 2004, are known for their devotion to family and community service.

"Cummin and I are delighted to host this year's Yuletide Ball. It is a wonderful opportunity to welcome family and friends to our home for an enjoyable evening and to support Winthrop-University Hospital," said Mrs. Clancy. "As parents of five, three of whom were born at Winthrop, and grandparents of seven, we are especially happy and proud to support the Child Life Program and pediatric services at Winthrop.

"After all, this is our community's hospital and it is nice to see such an outpouring of support at this wonderfully festive event," added Mrs. Clancy.

Proceeds of the Yuletide Ball will benefit Winthrop's comprehensive children's programs and clinical services that cover the full range of pediatric specialties and sub-specialties.

In addition, the gala will help support Winthrop's unique Child Life Program, through which specially trained Child Life Specialists help children understand and cope with hospitalization. The caring and highly trained staff use therapeutic play, arts and crafts, entertainment and other diversions, to ensure that the hospital experience is as stress-free as possible for children and their families. Child Life Specialists are available in the Pediatric Emergency Unit, the Cancer Center for Kids, Pediatric Specialty Center and the Hospital's Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center.
