Over the past two weekends, the Garden City "Patriettes" U10 girls' soccer team have played some of their best soccer of the season. Over the Columbus Day weekend, the Patriettes competed in the Paul Cody Soccer Tournament in Windsor, Connecticut. This was the Patriettes' first tournament and the girls were ready for the challenge. In Game one on Saturday, the Patriettes faced a tough Wethersfield, Connecticut team. The Patriette's attack was led by Alicia Mueller, with numerous shots on goal and Laurel Nothel, who was all over the field with a smothering defense. The Patriettes were down 1-0 at the half but came back to tie the game 1-1 with an outstanding goal by Julia Biscardi. The following game was against the West Hartford Huskies, a tough, competitive fifth grade team. The Patriettes were not intimidated. Down 2-0, the Patriettes fought back with determination, skills and teamwork. Kelly McDonnell scored two goals, including a penalty kick and the final score was 2-2. On Sunday, the Patriettes were ready to take Windsor by storm. In Game three, the Patriettes shut out the Glastonbury Lightning, 3-0 with goals by Margot McTiernan, Annemarie Kane and Kelsey Whitney. A well deserved victory. In Game four against the Shelton Tigers, the Patriettes were on fire! Claire Murphy, Kelly McDonnell, Annemarie Kane, Caitlin Kaczynski, Erin Rode and Christie Pflume each scored a goal. The Patriettes enjoyed a 6-0 victory. The last game of the tournament was a tough one and although playing very hard and giving it their all, the Patriettes lost to the Tolland Lightning 4-0. The Patriettes finished the Tournament 2-1-2. In the end, a great time was had by both the players and their families and the Patriettes came away from their first tournament of the season with stronger friendships, great memories and confidence in their abilities. Coaches Marianne Rode and Michael Kaczynski did an awesome job.

Early on a brisk Saturday morning, with a slight delay of game to fix a deep hole in the Lynbrook field, the Patriettes took the Lynbrook/East Rockaway Lightning by storm. Alicia Mueller scored two goals, followed by goals from Kelly McDonnell, Annemarie Kane, Kelsey Whitney and Margot McTiernan. Way to go Patriettes!
