Blazers Battle Thunderbirds
The Thunderbirds took the ball down the field on a breakaway and scored a quick goal to take a 1:0 lead. Patrick Mohan, in goal, made a great save as a second goal was attempted. He was injured in this play and was carried off the field, but with a little ice and rest he was back in the game during the second half. Despite the Blazers control of the ball through the entire first half, 2 more Thunderbird goals ended the half with the Blazers down 3:0. The Blazers came out strong in the second half. They once again dominated the ball with much of the action in front of the Thunderbirds goal. A Thunderbirds handball in the box gave the Blazers another opportunity for a penalty kick. Aidan Logan took the shot which went over the wall of Thunderbirds players and into the goal. The score was now 3:1 and the Blazers were all charged up. As play continued there were some terrific saves made by Adam Davies in goal and strong defense plays by Jonathan Castoro, Joseph Giarraputo and Brendan Harney holding the Thunderbirds to 3 goals. On offense, there were many shots on goal attempted by Chris Hourmouzis, Zach Miner, Drew Pascale and Chris Stumpf. Many of these plays were the result of strong passing and coordination between players. On a Blazers corner kick which was deflected to the side, Justin Gong crossed the ball in front of the net where Brian Tully took a great shot for a Blazers goal. Brian's first goal as a Blazer!! Way to go Brian!! All in all the Blazers outplayed the Thunderbirds throughout the game, but unfortunately the Thunderbirds outscored the Blazers 3:2. The Blazers played strong and never gave up...Great Effort Blazers!
