What's Up For Young Adults At The Library

The Young Adult Department of the Garden City Public Library is pleased to sponsor a workshop on "How to Beat the High Cost of College" on Monday, October 23, 2006 at 7 PM. Barry Fox, BA, MA, financial Aid counselor, member of the New York State Financial Aid Administrators' Association; Selection Committee, West Point Military Academy; and adjunct faculty member, SUNY and CUNY, will be the speaker. Billions of dollars in student aid money available will not even be distributed because either no one asked for it or because financial aid forms were incorrectly filled out. During this single session, you can find out which programs you might qualify for, how much you could receive, and how to get started. Included will be step by step strategies for filling out the FAFSA form, planning a needs analysis and negotiating techniques for dealing with financial aid officers. Learn what constitutes an independent student and the unique situations of divorced/separated parents. This is an excellent time for parents of juniors as well as seniors to begin planning. There will be ample time for questions at the conclusion of the program. Registration is not necessary for this program.

Election Day is right around the corner. Why not spend lunch time discussing the book, Nothing But the Truth by Avi with other young adults? The Yak and Snack group for this Fall will meet at 12;30 PM on Tuesday, November 7th. Bring your lunch and the library will provide the beverages, snacks, and desserts. Copies of the book and sign up at the Young Adult Desk Registration began on October 10th.

Registration for all Young Adult programs can be done in person at the Young Adult desk, by phoning 742-8405 ext. 220, or emailing mkelly@nassaulibrary.org. If signing up electronically please include name, address, phone number and grade in the message and indicate which program you are interested in.
