GC Thunder 9 Borges
 | | Some of our great defense running off the field after another big stop!!!
|
| It was a beautiful autumn day in Garden City, a perfect day for a Thunder football game. It was the 5th game of the year for the Borges, Sullivan, Moscatiello, Larkin and Slovensky 9 year old football team. The game started out and had the feel like it was going to be a defensive battle, both offenses would move the ball and then the defenses would step up and force a punt. The GC Thunder defense put on its best performance of the year led by a defensive line consisting of Chris Larkin, Joey Matina, Lucas Hildreth, Chris Moscatiello, Michael Crapotta and Nicholas Donner (we missed you Andrew Mohasci). These young men were backed by Linebackers James Sullivan and Matt Borges and a secondary of Patrick Slovensky, Chris Repetti and Colin Castro. This defense worked extremely hard all day and earned their second shutout of the season guaranteeing a final outcome no worse then a tie. The game went to halftime with the score still tied, 0 - 0 but our boys work very hard every week on conditioning and we knew we had our opponent right where we wanted them!!!
 | | Coach Borges calling the next play(hey coach, run a reverse, go on 2, throw a pass, run to the right, run up the middle, run to the left) boys, can I call the play????
|
| The Thunder started the second half with the ball and had some success moving it but the Uniondale defense was very stingy! Our offense continued to work very hard to move the ball and we had some success led by our offensive line (Chris Larkin, Daniel Krumm, Chris Moscatiello, Alex Ferzola, Thomas Lane, Kevin Sprotte and Patrick Slovensky). These boys did a great job blocking for Will Glenn, Quinn McDonagh, Matt Borges and James Sullivan. As time in the third quarter expired, the score remained 0 - 0! The ball went back and forth for much of the fourth quarter and with approximately 3 minutes remaining Uniondale started an offensive series from about their own 35 yard line. Our defense really started pushing Uniondale back with consecutive sacks for losses of about 18 yards. Then in a moment that seemed like destiny, the Uniondale QB dropped back to pass, released the ball and James Sullivan cut right in front of the receiver intercepted the pass and scampered about 20 yards for the game winning touchdown with 1:40 left on the clock!!! Uniondale had one more chance with the ball and gained some yards but in the end, as time expired, the boys all celebrated in the great victory!!!!

| This victory moves our record to 3 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie (great job boys!!!). Next On the schedule is a very tough Mineola team next Sunday at North Hempstead Park at 10:30.
